BlitZ 'BREAKNECK' Single Review

In recent years there have been a few promising bands emerging from the East Midlands, many of these groups are really starting to make inroads with their releases being covered in the music press, getting exposure on national and specialist internet Radio stations and on the live circuit paying their dues by constant gigging with quality releases to promote, this is now being acknowledged with rightly deserved invitations to play festivals. Prime examples of these artists being Nottingham’s Ferocious Dog and Derby’s own MuddiBrooke. Then there is a Nottingham band whose brand of NWOCR (New Wave Of Classic Rock) really is making an impact.

BlitZ formed in 2015 and is Stuart Corden (bass/vocals), Kevin Simpson (guitar/vocals) and Mat Davies (drums). In the space of five years this band have released two studio albums and a live record. Later this year sees the unleashing of third album ‘KICKING UP A STORM’ which, if the previous releases are anything to go by, will be a very apt title!

As a teaser, the new record has been preceded by the release of brand new single ‘BREAKNECK’. Classic high octane, no holds barred Hard Rock ‘N’ Roll, delivered to perfection by this talented trio. It has everything, a great riff, superb sing-a-long chorus and punchy lyrics and a great live video. ‘BREAKNECK’ is one of those tracks that deserves, and no doubt, will get repeated listens, once this track gets in the listeners head, it is hard to shake.

As a power trio they deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Rush, ZZ Top, Muse, The Police, even Cream. The chemistry between Corden, Simpson and Davies is really quite something, together they are quite a force and are unstoppable. They deserve to be very successful.

‘BREAKNECK’ without doubt will feature in the group’s live set for years to come and could well become a fan favourite.
